Day 3: Hybrid Pathways

Photoelectrochemical (PEC) CO₂ reduction offers a promising route to convert solar energy into chemical fuels while enabling carbon-neutral energy storage. We are glad to welcome Negar Naghavi as a Keynote Speaker to discuss the role of advanced photovoltaic absorbers in this transition!
Among the materials currently being researched, Cu(In,Ga)Se₂ (CIGS) stands out for PEC applications thanks to its excellent light absorption, tunable band gap, efficient charge transport, and high technological maturity. However, its implementation as a photocathode is currently limited by interfacial charge recombination, insufficient catalytic activity, and stability issues.
During her Keynote, Negar will thoroughly examine the evolution from standard CIGS solar cells to CIGS-based photocathodes for CO₂ reduction. Her presentation will cover the journey from bare semiconductors to complex hybrid architectures—specifically those combining p-n junctions, protective interlayers, and selective catalysts.
